INDIANAPOLIS — On a warm fall day outside of Lucas Oil Stadium, the roof and window was closed as the Colts looked to bounce back from a tough loss in Week 4 to the LA Rams. The Raiders came in looking to bounce back as well after a losing on a FG Block to the Chicago Bears in Week 4.
After a Colts 3 and out to start proceedings, the Raiders went on a 16 play, 80 yard drive spanning 9 minutes and 50 seconds only netting a field goal and that was the highlight of the day for the Raiders, after that it was all down hill from there as the Colts onslaught started ending in a dominant 40 to 6 victory for the Colts.
There was balance offensively in the run game and in the pass game. Daniel Jones spread 20 complete passes to 5 different receivers totaling 212 yards with 2 touchdowns. The running game lead by Jonathan Taylor who had 17 carries for 66 yards with 3 touchdowns on the day, once again showing that he’s arguably the best running back in football right now. Additionally, former Raider, Ameer Abdullah, got a rushing touchdown against his former running mates adding salt to the Raiders’ wound. Defensively, the Colts forced two turnovers on the day and held the Raiders to 0 for 6 in the red area as well.
Looking at the standings in the AFC after Week 5, the Colts are at the top of the conference and would have the number 1 seed if the playoffs started today with Buffalo and division foe Jacksonville on their heels. The schedule sets up for Colts win and gain tiebreaker advantages over teams they will be competing with late in the season for seeding such as the LA Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers. It’s very important that the Colts take a week to week mentality and get wins over the teams like Arizona, Atlanta and Tennessee not falling into the dreaded trap game.
Arizona comes into Indianapolis on a low, losing 3 games in row on last second field goals. In Week 5, being up 21-3 on the winless Titans and to blow that lead at home in the fashion that they did could have lingering effects into Week 6 heading to play the Colts. If the Colts come out and jump on the Cardinals early, the Cardinals could tap out early after all compounding adversity which would allow the Colts to replicate the good vibes from Week 5.
